Osteomatrix:

Extra calcium is required for baby’s healthy bones – AND little known fact…Mom’s blood level rises 50% during pregnancy. Calcium along with iron is responsible for producing the extra blood that nourishes the fetus. When taken during pregnancy can prevent leg cramps. Also a lot of sleep issues are linked to a calcium and magnesium deficiency (why a glass of warm milk is suggested before bed cavities, and helps calm the baby after birth!
**I had really bad cramps from my uterus contracting when I nursed May- this helps with muscle cramps, mood swings, water retention, and reduces indigestion. Hopefully my cramps wont be so bad with this!  Many of my friends use Osteomatrix and GLA to help with menstrual cramping and NO LONGER GET CRAMPS!! I take 1-2 osteomatrix with each meal to help my heartburn- it works amazing!
Benefits: Relieves PMS, retains normal blood pressure, reduces risk of osteoporosis

Last fall and winter when I was so sick I never thought May would come and now its here!  I am so thankful to be at the finish line of my pregnancy and I can not wait to meet sweet baby boy!

Lauren took these pictures on Easter….

Thanks Lor for taking these!

Baby Prep!

I am down to almost 4 weeks until baby boy comes (give or take 2 weeks if he comes around when May came)  Hopefully longer!  I am trying to get as much done in April to have a somewhat relaxing May.  As much as you can when you are extremely uncomfortable.

In the midst of all this Sam and I are trying to get our home ready to put on the market.  A little crazy I know!

Around 37 weeks pregnant with May such a difference in size with #2.  I also feel like he is so much lower this time.

Alright all you seasoned moms here is the list I put together of everything I hope to get done before baby boy.  Let me know if I am missing something!!

Also I need some major stroller insight.  Everyone I know says good things about the double jogger Bob, but I have also heard the City Mini is lighter and easier to fold up. I can’t decide which one is better?  HELP PLEASE!  I know the Bob is easier to jog with, but I am not sure how often I will go jogging with a double stroller?  Lets be realistic here lol.

photo(296)

Baby Prep:

– Wash all breast pump parts
– Buy Nursing bras
– Wash baby clothes
– Freeze meals (have about 5-6 meals but need to make some more)
– Figure out stroller (debating between City Mini GT and Bob Double stroller)
– Install car seat
– Pack hospital bag
– Pack diaper bag
– Get out baby items from basement- wash
– Date nights/time with Sam and May
Schedule dentist/hair/appointments
Buy gift for May from baby brother –I got her a book and this fun wheel barrel to play with.

Not quite sure how this will work giving it to her in a hospital lol but I know she will love it for the summer:

 – Find co sleeper (let me know if you or anyone you know is selling one)

photo(309)Malayna loves reading her “Big sister” books over and over again.  Each day she talks more and more about baby brother in my belly.  We are trying to prepare her for the changes ahead (as much as we can).  I know she will be a great big sister!

Thankfully between my amazing neighbor, Sara, and some resales I feel set with clothing until around 6-9 months!  I have been busy doing laundry, organizing, and sorting all the clothes!  Nesting is in full force!

Moms what are some thing I am forgetting?

What are some helpful suggestions for transitioning from 1-2?

Why Supplement- Is it really necessary to supplement?

Is it really necessary to supplement?

why-supplement

I am going to talk a little bit about common misconceptions about supplementation and whether or not its really necessary to supplement.

Did you know 90% of diseases are preventable?

This weekend I had the opportunity to attend a Health Conference led by a Nutritionist who has recovered from lupus, cancer (given 6 months to live) and bitten by a brown recluse spider bite (was told she would be dead or alive in 10 days). This women looked to food and supplements to help heal her body and knows a lot when it comes to using nature to heal her body. Her talk focused on several things:
-Natural State of Health Health and Need for Supplementation
-Inflammation: The Silent Killer

e9fc6c07773d2731c07d0e6a764b9b83
I was blown away with how much I learned. One thing she addressed was the dramatic decline of our health care. Although we spend the most money on our health care, we are ranked as one of the unhealthiest countries.

Disease

Here are a few statistics she shared:
Top 4 diseases (heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and stroke) cover 80% of our health care
Every 33 seconds someone dies from heart disease
10,000% increase in heart disease in the past 80 years
80% of cancer is preventable
Breast cancer is #1 cause of cancer around the world
500% increase in autoimmune disease

I think a big part of this is because we are part of a society that is focused on treating and not preventing or getting to the root cause of disease. When we are sick we seek out medicines instead of finding the root cause of why certain things happen. Don’t get me wrong I am not against Doctors, Hospitals or Medicine. In fact I am extremely grateful for them and I KNOW MANY TIMES THEY ARE NEEDED!!!  As I battled through Hyperemeis I can’t imagine how i would have functioned without Zofran.  I just think  sometimes certain things can be treated and prevented with changes to our diet and supplements. For example, I can’t tell you how many people I know whose Doctors prescribe steroid crèmes and lotions to help their childs eczema and after just switching to our laundry or adding in a few supplements no longer has any signs of eczema. Just the past few weeks two friends have seen dramatic improvement in their childrens skin by changing cleaners/adding in supplements.
Here is an example of one:

BB'S SKIN - 3 DAYa1.jpg.jpg.jpg(1)

lotionsA.jpg.jpg.jpg

Part of my job as a Health Consultant is seeking to get to the root of what is causing the symptom/disease? What is happening in the body to cause this symptom? What is your diet like? Have they had any past use of antibiotics (antibiotics kill good bacteria and often cause issues in the gut).   Most of the time laundry, changes in the diet, and adding in supplements to boost the immune system/restore the gut are all children need. Had these parents not made these changes, their children would still be suffering.  My friend Steph tried all those products- probably costing her lots of money and found no relief.  Not only did Shaklee products help, but he is no longer suffering.  You can read her story here.

For my friend Laura, all she did after trying so many different things with her children was switch to our non-toxic laundry and the eczema went away!  Often times we don’t realize how big of a role cleaners play in our health.  To read more check out this post on laundry being found in our bloodstream or this post.  For many children just changing laundry is all they need to do, but for others they need to restore the gut (using probiotics) and help build up the immune system.  Check out this blog post from my friend Harper here on why changing diet and supplements is so important.  I have lots of great info to share on eczema if you would like to learn more let me know!

Another amazing eczema story from my precious cousin:

Probiotics dissolved, alfalfa, 1/4 increadivites, 1/2 nutriferon!!

eczemaEczema testimonies are just the beginning.  Allergies, asthma, digestion, energy, mood, anxiety, weight loss, immunity and more are all things I have seen diet and product support helping!

“But shouldn’t we get all our nutrients from food we eat.” Or “I eat pretty healthy, I don’t need a supplement.”
Only 2% of the population gets the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables in our diet. Did you know it is recommended to eat 5-9 veggies a day! On top of that most food nowadays is heavily processed, or not grown locally or organically- thus losing a lot of the important nutrients our bodies need! The practices of agricultural have changed a lot nowadays as well as many farmers rely on pesticides. There is a 38% decline in nutrient value in produce, and even the soil is not as nutrient rich as it once was! Countless studies show the health benefits of nutritional supplementation. Just a few facts on how many diseases can be preventable with proper nutrition and supplementation….

Information taken from here:

Using Supplements Costs too Much
The amazing part about prevention is it really does save you money in the long run.  People share with me all the time how much money they save from fewer Doctor visit, prescriptions, medical bills, sick days, etc. And you can’t put a price tag on feeling better and having a better quality of life!
Take my friend Ambers story for example whose daughter struggle with asthma- was on a bunch of prescription medications-spending hundreds of dollars a month went to switch cleaners/supplements and now spends very little on supplements to keep her daughter off her meds!!! NO asthma or allergy medications, NO doctor visits, NO antibiotics for 7 months, and NO real sicknesses.  Yes not only will she not have any side effects from the meds, but she is also saving money.

Here is her cost breakdown comparison:

Medical Costs $1,522.54 before insurance ($778.66 paid out of pocket)
Pharmacy Costs $392. 54 before insurance ($236.66 out of pocket).

Did you see this is $1015.32 out-of-pocket in only seven months!  For the past 7 months, do you know what I have spent?

Incredivites ($29.70/120 tablets)
NutriFeron ($39.00/60 tablets lasted us 7 months)
Chewable Vitamin C ($23.35/300 tablets)

Total: $151.45

Supplementing Helps Prevent Disease

Did you know Shaklee has been around for over 56 years and the average Shaklee user uses their products for over 17 years! The landmark study alone sold me that showed people who take Shaklee supplements had overall better health than those who took another supplement or no supplement at all.

There were 3 groups studied: one group used Shaklee for over 20 years, another group used other brands, and the other used no supplements. Guess which group was the unhealthiest?… The one who took the other brands. And the healthiest group was the Shaklee group. Ours is the only company in the world with proof of the long-term health benefits of its products.

To view the 3rd party study: www.landmarkstudy.com

When compared to other brands of supplements, Shaklee supplement users were:
— 73% less likely to have diabetes.
— 67% less likely to have experienced heart failure.
— 38% less likely to have high blood pressure.
— When over 65 years old, Shaklee users had an average of 0.6 prescriptions filled compared to the average of 19 (for Medicare Patients over 65) within the most recent year…

Proving Supplementation can help prevent disease!

Remember not all supplements are the same.   To learn more about how Shaklee supplements are unique check out these posts!

Gender reveal

Still catching up on pregnancy posts!

Here is a little run down of our gender reveal (yes back in Janurary). Sigh.

For Malayna we did a little Gender Reveal party which was fun. We found out the gender at the ultrasound and then had family and friends over for the big reveal. We put a pink m&m in the cupcake for them to bite into and find out it was a GIRL!

1535691_848373527106_319105705_n

A comparison….

image(1)

For this pregnancy we wanted to find out the gender again. Can I say how much I love finding out the gender. In fact both times I was pregnant I highly considered getting an early ultrasound done to find out the gender, but held myself back ;). I just am always so anxious to find out the gender.
This time I wanted to find out in a more special way than by the ultrasound.  We gave Lauren the card with the ultrasound and gender and she planned a special revel for us.

She gave Sam, May, and I each special gifts revealing the gender.
Sam got a fishing pole
I received a special blue onesie with hastags (inside joke with Lauren)
And May received a special doll that was a baby boy (this made me cry when I saw hers)

photo(216)
We all got to open them at the same time.  Lauren picked the perfect gifts for each of us and it was so special to each get one.

After we had Malayna reveal to everyone “BOY” on a special video.
We are over the moon to be having a boy and excited for all that little boys bring- lots of energy, adventures, wrestling matches, fishing/hunting, trains and more!

She is very excited to be a big sister!

Favorite Protein Snacks

Here are a few of my favorite high protein snacks I love to make! I’m trying to get as much protein as I can because I always notice I feel the best and have the most energy when I eat enough protein.

Proteins act as the building blocks that make up a large part of every cell in your body, including muscle, skin, bone, and hair; they are also essential for building enzymes, hormones, and hemoglobin.

Proteins are made up of smaller components called amino acids, some of which can be produced by our bodies, and others, which must come from the foods we eat. The ones that must come from our diet are called essential amino acids and include histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. (Taken from here)

Great article on good protein sources

 Peanut Butter Protein Balls
1 c. soy protein powder: I use Energizing Soy protein from Shaklee: Cocoa or vanilla
1C. natural peanut butter: I think Trader Joes or Costco natural brand is the best.
1/2 cup honey.

7df1908c47aa6dee209b9bdb999b4187

Laurens incredible homemade granola bars!!

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1-2 Tablespoons organic coconut oil
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup total of any combination-I used craisins, chocolate chips, chia seeds, and unsweetened shredded coconut. Use whatever dried fruit, seeds, etc. that you’d like!

In a medium saucepan, melt the honey, peanut butter, and coconut oil together. Remove from heat and stir in oats and your one cup mixture of dried fruit, etc.

Spread into in ungreased 8×8 glass pan and refrigerate for 2 hours. Then cut into bars, wrap in plastic wrap, and keep in the fridge. So convenient!

Why is protein so important?

They give you energy: Protein stimulates certain cells in the brain that keep us awake and increase our energy expenditure throughout the day.
They fill you up: Studies show people who eat a meal or snack containing protein feel fuller longer and that means a reduction in overall daily calorie consumption because subjects were simply not as hungry between meals or at mealtime.
They maintain lean body mass: Protein is essential for maintaining muscle mass whenever you are on a calorie-restricted diet, exercising, or building muscle. Without enough protein in the diet, the body starts to use muscle mass for energy and this leads to decrease in lean body mass and a drop in metabolism. Leucine, an amino acid in protein, especially, is good at maintaining lean body mass during low-calorie diets.

Top 5 Reasons I love Shaklee Cleaners: FREE BASIC H OFFER!!!!

photo(272)Don’t miss my YEAR OF FREE CLEANER (BASIC H) OFFER AT THE END to celebrate St.Patty’s Day!  Go GREEN!

10+reasons+to+love+Basic+H+photo

Top 5 reasons I love Shaklee cleaners:

1. They are safe and non toxic.

This has been the biggest reason we have switched over to Shaklee cleaners.  One thing I have learned after doing lots of research is many “free and clear” or “green” cleaners still have traces of chemicals in them.  Malayna can even help me clean and I never have to worry if I spray around or near her what effect it could have on her!  In fact she can even help clean!

photo(275)

Check out this article on BabyGanics: EWG’s guide has highlighted how many cleaning products contain toxic chemicals and how difficult it is for even careful consumers to find out exactly what’s in them.

http://www.ewg.org/release/cleaning-products-marketed-safe-babies-contain-known-human-carcinogen

Did you know?

Many all-purpose cleaners may contain toxins that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled. Synthetic solvents may cause hormone disruptions. Organic solvents such as butyl cellosolve are neurotoxins and nasal irritants. Another toxin, morpholine, can cause liver or kidney damage. Glass cleaners contain ammonia, a poison that can irritate skin, eyes, and the respiratory system

Fact: More than 9 our of 10 suspected poison exposures occur at home with household products.

Fact: Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than those who work outside the home.

 photo(274)

Shaklee runs over 100,000 quality tests a year to ensure they are pure and safe.

In cleaning products alone:

Nontoxic

No toxic fumes

No hazardous chemicals

Fragrance free

Mild on your hands

pH balanced

No chlorine

Here is a list of all the ingredients you will not find in Shaklee products:

    NO Parabens

    NO Triclosan

    NO Phthalates

    NO Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

NO Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate (SLES)

    NO 1,4-Dioxane

    NO Propylene Glycol

NO Volatile Organic Cleaning Compounds (VOCs)

    NO Hydrochloric Acid

    NO Ammonia

    NO Sodium Hydroxide

    NO Butyl Cellosolve

    NO Formaldehyde

    NO Bisphenol-A

    NO Petroleum Distillates

    NO Toluene

    NO Chlorine Bleach

    NO MSG

    NO Dyes

    NO Trans Fats

    NO Artificial Sweeteners

    NO Toxic Inks

    NO Banned Substances

2.  They save money and last a really long time.

I hardly ever have to buy cleaners because all of them are so heavily concentrated.   Natures bright (stain remover) lasts us around 9-12 months and works so well with getting stains out!  The dish and hand soap I dilute with water because you only need a small amount.  These tend to last me 6-9 months.  The laundry powder has lasted some families of 3 up to 1 year!    I love not having to buy any cleaners at the store anymore or even walk down the cleaning aisle and get an instant headache from the fumes.

The Basic H alone:

✔Ultraconcentrated — 16 oz. makes 48 gallons — all-purpose cleaner

✔16 oz. of Basic H2 makes the equivalent of over 5,800 bottles of Windex ®* (26 oz. each)

Get clean_cost comparison_022011dc(1) Shaklee-Get-Clean-cost-comparison-image

3. They are green.

They are safe not only for your family and home, but on the planet.

 get-clean-kit-natural-cleaning-products-for-home

✔Natural, sustainably sourced ingredients — derived from corn and coconut

✔Biodegradable surfactants

✔No phosphates

✔Recyclable packaging

✔No dyes

✔Safe for septic systems and graywater

Just a small snapshot of their incredible history:

1960- Basic H- one of the first non-toxic biodegradable cleaners

1972- Basic-L, one of the first biodegradable laundry detergents without phosphates, nitrates, or borates.

2000- Shaklee becomes the first company in the world to obtain Climate Neutral certification and totally offset its carbon emissions, resulting in a net-zero impact on the environment.

4. They work really well

I use basic H on pretty much everything and it always works incredibly well.  We have a running joke in our family that if there is a spill, accident, or stain- “No worries basic h will fix it.”  I had a friend recently who has a stain on her couch and tried every cleaner imaginable- I put some basic H on it and it immediately came out!!  I use Basic H to dust, clean windows, remove stains,  do dishes, clean sinks, bubble baths for kids, clean veggies, natural bug repellant, the list goes on!

I could share story after story about how just switching laundry helped clear up a childs eczema or how my cousin stopped spitting up when they switched dish soaps/dishwasher cleaners (the bottles were being washed with the soap and traces are still left on bottles which is left behind when a baby drinks from the bottle).  Not to meantion how many peoples allergies, asthma, migranes/headaches improved!

My big 2 year old

photo(194)

photo(235)Two years old is SO MUCH FUN (and exhausting….).  This age is such a blast with all the things she is able to do now.  Its fun to actually have a meal together and have a conversation.  Malayna’s personality comes out more and more everyday- she is so full of life, brings joy to those around her, VERY LOUD (don’t know where that comes from), messy (can destroy a room in 30 seconds), plays so hard, and definitely knows what she wants.

photo(200)As she grows older I am more and more grateful for the incredible church we can be a part of.  Even at just 2 years old, she is beginning to grasp concepts like Jesus healing people and caring for others.  I love picking her up from a Sunday morning at Kidsworld and hearing what she is learning.  One of my favorite things is hearing her pray and thank God for the little things- like dip or a spoon.

photo(193)   For her birthday we took her to Monkey Joes- a fun indoor jump place.  She had a blast and then went out to lunch at  2Toots- a restaurant that brings out food on trains.  Lets just say she was one happy girl.

photo(196) photo(198)Her current obsession is ducks and trains.  We have to read 10 Little Rubber Ducks before every nap and bed.  Lets just say we have the book memorized.  How is it that kids want to read the same thing over and over and over again??  She has a big and small duck that she carries with her everywhere.

She still loves loves loves trains.  She carries Chuggington with her everywhere and will easily play with trains for long periods of time.  She has woken up in the middle of the night and yelled out, “Ride the rails.”  True story.  Her favorite show is still Curious George and favorite movie is Despicable Me.  She has minon band aids she has to wear every day.

She loves her newest cousin beautiful baby Viola.  In fact she talks about her often and calls random strangers and our baby Viola.  She calls her Iola and it sounds so cute.

photo(236)She loves to touch my belly and say its ok baby.  Or play Doctor and try and hear the heartbeat.

I am also loving this age because she is into doing a lot of crafts/painting/coloring (My fav).

She definitely takes after her mama and does NOT like cold weather.  We did manage to go sledding though 🙂

And her other favorite obsession is playing in the sink.  photo(245)Love you baby girl!  Each day with you is such a gift.
